Monsoon picnics and much more ......

It's raining heavily every where in Indian continent. People who were affected by scorching heat became happy when it started raining. Within two weeks of arrival of rains monsoon picnics started. Still people are busy in picnics. Friends groups are having small gate together. Chaiwalas are happy.  Pakodas and tea parties are going on.
But Kerala is busy in preparing for famous snake boat races. Alleppey backwaters is racing capital. People are practicing,  making themselves and boats ready for competition. It is in the months of August and September that the moist, rain-drenched earth and the glorious everflowing backwaters burst into song together, as over hundred thousand men and women gather on the banks to witness a spectacular water regatta - the SNAKE BOAT RACES. Boat race crews begin to practice for the race months before the great day. They live together, eat together, toil together to work themselves into a smooth, co-ordinated team.
The people gathered to see the delightful boat race cheer up the participants, lay bets and encourage the boatmen to row as fast as possible. This heightens the enthusiasm of the participants who fight with all their might to win the race. The scene of boats racing through the waters on the rhythm of drums and cymbals is simply picturesque. The boats used for the race are popularly known as snake boats as they are designed to resemble a snake. They are 30 to 60 m in length with cone shaped  helms tapering several metres above the water. The boat can accommodate around 120 boatmen. The boat races are truly high on entertainment quotient.  The races are full of surprises and zeal. Be part of the fun and enthusiasm. If you're interested in witnessing one or more races we'll make arrangements accordingly for you. Remember monsoon is not only for one day trips. You may plan your autumn, Diwali, winter vacations with us. While we are talking about fun & enjoyment our farmers are working very hard during this period for us as well as themselves. Always remain grateful to them.
