Queen of hills Darjeeling
Lying amidst the slopes of the Lesser Himalayas and blanketed by emerald green plantations of tea, Darjeeling is a picturesque town in the Indian state of West Bengal. The majestic Kanchenjunga (also known as Kangchenjunga) towers over this beautiful town, which is the third highest mountain in the world. Popularly known as the ' Queen of the Hills' ,Darjeeling is a favoured tourist destination, noted for its scenic beauty, ancient forests, quaint houses , friendly peopleand the mountain panorama that it provides.

The most in-demand attraction here is the majestic Kanchenjunga or Khangchendzonga, the third-highest peak in the world. Tourists flock to nearby peaks to watch glorious sunrises and sunsets over Kanchenjunga. Darjeeling boasts remnants of colonial-era architecture that exude a charm of their own. One of the best ways to explore the city is by riding in the 140-year-old Darjeeling Himalayan Railway that meanders through some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in and around the hill station.

Darjeeling is a hot spot for Eco-tourism in India. One can sight a wide variety of animals and plants here. Some of the flora spotted here are the Himalayan newt (a rare species of salamander), mutiac (barking deer), civet cats, the Himalayan Black bear, the Snow Leopard and around 600 varieties of beautiful butterflies. The flora here encompasses around 139 species of Rhododendrons, magnolia flowers in white, pink and magenta and orchids of different varieties.
There are several monasteries in Darjeeling. There's one museum of natural history that houses a rare collection of fauna of the Himalayan region. Darjeeling is renowned the world over for its quality tea. Stroll through the tea gardens and smell the aroma of the fresh tea leaves. Enjoy a cup of Darjeeling tea and take back home some packets of tea leaves. There are around 70 tea gardens in Darjeeling and the most famous one is the Happy Valley Tea Estate.
Darjeeling is not same perhaps as it used to be, because time takes its toll. If you come with passionate heart and eyes, Darjeeling is still amazing as it had always been.
